Close Liaisons (The Krinar Chronicles, #1) - Anna Zaires
Book provided by author for review.

A dark and edgy romance that will appeal to fans of erotic and turbulent relationships . . .

In the near future, the Krinar rule the Earth. An advanced race from another galaxy, they are still a mystery to us – and we are completely at their mercy.

Shy and innocent, Mia Stalis is a college student in New York City who has led a very normal life. Like most people, she’s never had any interactions with the invaders – until one fateful day in the park changes everything. Having caught Korum’s eye, she must now contend with a powerful, dangerosly seductive Krinar who wants to possess her and will stop at nothing to make her his own.

How far would you go to regain your freedom? How much would you sacrifice to help your people? What choice will you make when you begin to fall for your enemy?

WARNING: This book contains strong sexual content and explicit language and is not suitable for readers under 18.

My thoughts:

I want to divide this book into two parts, the first 50% of the book where I struggled and the last 50% that I really liked.

I really struggled with the first half of this book, I felt like I re-read fifty shades of grey just with aliens in it. That would probably be a good thing if you like the fifty shades of grey books I really don’t. I think they are the worst books I ever read. This book however is much, much better written, the author can actually write and writes well. That is a huge difference and makes this so much better. I also had a problem with the food thing, no animal products. «Your unhealthy addiction to animal products." Quote from the book. Really?!? What`s up with that? A world filled with people low in vitamin B12, no wonder the main character was clumsy. You sure get clumsy if you are low on vitamin B12. The aliens probably educated the population on how to avoid it, or I am choosing to hope they I did love all the wonderful food descriptions though, it made me hungry.

I also had a hard time with the first sex scene, I wanted to hit Korum over the head with a frying pan many, many times. I just don’t like him one little bit, I hope there is some greater depth down in there if not he is just an inconsiderate, narcissistic ass.
When I almost gave up the book it did a total turn around and went from this to something I could almost not put down.

The last 50% of the book I really liked, actually I loved it, it sucked me right in and I found myself up in the middle of the night not able to put the book down. The story moved along in a fast pace and the main character found her back bone and did her own thing behind Korum`s back. So not a dumb mindless female anymore, but a girl that understands where she is at and does what she can to struggle against her situation. I loved that she joined the resistance and spied on him. I really don’t like Korum I hope his character evolves in future books, right now I think he is just an abusive, controlling, asshole. But I tend to have a huge problem with characters this dominant and controlling.

I absolutely love the world the author has made here, it is well build up and very well written. I love all the alien gadgets she is telling about I feel like I am watching a new episode of Star Trek filled with wonderful new super toys. I love Star Trek so that is a very good thing. I just need to read the next book because I have a feeling there will be many, many more of them there. So talk about a change in the middle of the book, I did not think I wanted to read the next book, but now I have to say I really do. I cannot give this book a full pot since I struggled with the first half of it that was a 1-2 stars for me and the last half was a 5 stars so I am going to meet in the middle and give it 3 stars. I hope the next book in the series is like the last half of this book as that would be a full score book for me.
